Streator R/C Flyers always put on a great event. The schedule has changed to Thursday / Friday / Saturday to accommodate pilots that need to travel home on Sunday with the traditional dinner at Smitty's and Brian's hobby shop open house now on Friday night. The large contingent from Fox Valley brought their war birds and there were amazing scale models everywhere. The weather was ideal with breezes down the runway from the South on Thursday and Friday. Saturday was a bit more challenging and things wrapped up with trophies and awards at 2pm. Our Len Sabato's Mr Mulligan won "best classic", and our Dan Landis' P-51 won "best war bird". Way to go guys! Sean Cassidy brought three gorgeous WW1 planes and flew sorties all day long on Thursday and Friday. I flew my P-47, the P6e, and my Dutch AF Beaver.
John and Linda Pasquali both flew well and we all brought home the same number of planes we came with. Bill and Kaleb Spencer brought home one more than they brought. They got there a little late to do much flying, but they certainly had the "Streator Experience" including the overwhelming variety of all things R/C at Dynamic Balsa in Lenore. Bert Henne brought his big yellow Cub. He and I had a great time viewing museum quality planes and learning about building techniques and engine mechanics. the Streator club sold tasty brats, pulled pork sandwiches and all the fixn's each day. Linda outdid herself with a delicious dinner Thursday and breakfast Friday. All in all everyone had a great time, and Streator remains one of the most fun fly ins of the season!
